AltLayer

AltLayer (ALT) is an open, decentralized protocol and infrastructure ecosystem for rollups and autonomous on-chain agents. Its current site presents 8004scan for ERC-8004 agent discovery and reputation, AltLLM for AI-model access, AltClaw for DeFi MCP/private-RPC workflows, and RaaS for rollup deployment. Its Restaked Rollup framework adds decentralized verification, faster finality, and decentralized sequencing to rollups built with stacks such as OP Stack, Arbitrum Orbit, ZK Stack, or Polygon CDK. ALT is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and is listed by CoinGecko at 0x8457ca5040ad67fdebbcc8edce889a335bc0fbfb on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain; verify chain and address before transacting.

For rollups, AltLayer documents three modular AVS services: VITAL for rollup-state verification, MACH for fast finality, and SQUAD for decentralized sequencing. The protocol also offers a no-code/multi-stack Rollups-as-a-Service launchpad and persistent or ephemeral (Flash Layer) rollups.

ALT is used in AltLayer’s staking/restaking program. Official docs direct users to stake ALT on Ethereum Mainnet, receive stALT, optionally convert it to reALT for LaunchPool participation, and earn ALT rewards.

Rollup developers must bootstrap security, state verification, sequencing, interoperability, and finality for each application-specific network. New rollups may lack enough independent validators, while centralized sequencers introduce trust, censorship, MEV, vendor-lock-in, and weak soft-finality concerns. AltLayer addresses this with modular AVS services and restaked economic security.

Launching a custom rollup can otherwise demand substantial capital and years of engineering. AltLayer’s RaaS supports multiple rollup stacks, VMs, data-availability layers, and sequencing services; its agent products similarly target fragmentation in agent discovery, reputation, payments, model access, and DeFi execution.

Restaked Rollups use VITAL, MACH, and SQUAD together. VITAL checks state correctness through proof-of-validity or challenge workflows; MACH supplies economically backed faster finality and interoperability support; SQUAD coordinates decentralized sequencers. Operators provide collateral/restaked security and may be slashed for protocol violations.

The RaaS launchpad supports OP Stack, Arbitrum Orbit, Polygon zkEVM, ZK Stack, and Starkware, with multi-VM and modular DA integrations such as Celestia, EigenDA, and Avail. Persistent and ephemeral/Flash Layer rollups are supported; an ephemeral rollup can be launched for a temporary application workload and later settled on its L1.

The official restaking flow is: connect an EVM wallet to stake.altlayer.io on Ethereum Mainnet, approve and stake ALT, receive stALT, and optionally convert stALT to reALT. Published parameters specify ALT rewards, a 21-day unbonding period, no rewards during unbonding, and a minimum stake of 1 wei.
