What is Arbitrum?

Arbitrum is an Ethereum Layer 2 scaling ecosystem. Arbitrum One is a rollup chain that executes Ethereum-compatible smart contracts off-chain and posts data to Ethereum for settlement. Arbitrum Nova is an AnyTrust chain for lower-cost applications.

What problem does Arbitrum solve?

Ethereum mainnet has limited execution capacity and high data costs. Arbitrum addresses this by executing EVM transactions on L2 and posting compressed data to Ethereum.

How does Arbitrum work?

Users submit transactions to the Sequencer, which orders them and posts batches to Ethereum. The Nitro stack combines Geth EVM execution, ArbOS, bridges, and fraud-proof validation. ARB is the governance token; ETH pays fees.

Key facts

  • Native token: ARB (governance)
  • Arbitrum One gas paid in ETH
  • Nitro stack with Geth + ArbOS
  • Arbitrum Nova uses AnyTrust
  • ARB initial supply: 10 billion
