Cosmos Hub atom
What is Cosmos Hub?
Cosmos Hub (Gaia) is the first blockchain launched in the Cosmos Network: a public proof-of-stake chain whose native staking token is ATOM. It is built with the Cosmos SDK and ibc-go.
What problem does Cosmos Hub solve?
Independent blockchains traditionally cannot communicate or share security easily. Cosmos Hub addresses interoperability through IBC and can aggregate validator security for consumer chains.
How does Cosmos Hub work?
The Hub application is gaia, built with modular Cosmos SDK components. IBC enables cross-chain data/value transfer using light-client verification. The Hub uses delegated proof of stake; ATOM is staked by validators/delegators.
Key facts
- Native token: ATOM
- Consensus: delegated proof of stake
- Software: gaia application, gaiad daemon
- Interoperability: IBC
- Mainnet chain ID: cosmoshub-4
