Optimism (OP) is the governance token of Optimism, an Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solution using optimistic rollups. The Optimism Collective governs the protocol through the Token House and Citizens' House.
What problem does Optimism solve?
Ethereum mainnet has limited throughput and high fees. Optimism scales Ethereum by executing transactions off-chain and posting data to Ethereum, while maintaining security through fraud proofs.
How does Optimism work?
Optimism uses optimistic rollups: transactions are executed on L2 and state is posted to Ethereum. OP token holders govern protocol upgrades and treasury through the Optimism Collective. The Superchain vision connects multiple OP Chains.
