From tokenized art to AI trading agents: what happened to APENFT?

The ticker NFT survived a dramatic change of identity. APENFT began by promising a bridge between major artworks and blockchains; AINFT now presents an AI-agent benchmark. The key question is not whether the new story sounds larger, but which parts are live, which remain a roadmap, and what the fungible token actually represents.

An art foundation became a token ecosystem

APENFT was incorporated in Singapore on March 29, 2021. Its original mission was to register major artworks as NFTs, support crypto-native artists, and build an NFT marketplace around TRON, Ethereum, BTFS storage, and later multichain infrastructure. The foundation and its 2025 white paper identify works associated with Picasso, Andy Warhol, Beeple, Pak, and Maurizio Cattelan in its collection narrative.

That history matters, but it does not turn every NFT token into a piece of those works. The fungible NFT token and an ERC-721 or TRC-721 record for an individual artwork are different assets. AINFT's documents call NFT a governance token and describe voting, rewards, and tiered perks; they do not provide a legal-title register that maps each fungible token to a fraction of a named artwork.

The 2025 pivot changed the product, not the ticker

AINFT's September 2025 white paper recast the project as AI infrastructure for TRON. It proposed a multi-agent framework, an agent launch platform called Nova, a financial-agent framework called AgenTX, and a decentralized model platform called Grid. These descriptions are a roadmap written by the project and should be separated from deployed, independently verified products.

The current AINFT homepage is more concrete and more modest. It describes a paper-only benchmark where BTC and ETH trading agents run under locked rules, drawdown limits, common data, and replayable decision logs. It says there are no wallet connections, exchange keys, real orders, deposits, or withdrawals. That surface can be evaluated on its own terms, but it is not evidence that every system in the broader white paper is operating.

What the NFT token actually represents

The official TRON source code creates 999,990,000,000,000 NFT with six decimals. The 2025 white paper says all allocations were fully unlocked by May 1, 2023 and assigns large original shares to artist partners, artwork purchases, the team, mining and airdrops, and partnerships. A very large nominal supply makes unit price visually small; it does not by itself make the network cheap or valuable.

AINFT says staking NFT produces voting rights and that governance participation may receive rewards. The same public record leaves important questions for users: which proposals are active, how much stake is required, who controls the treasury, whether a reward is contractual or discretionary, and whether any claimed profit share is legally enforceable. Those questions should be answered with current governance and legal documents, not inferred from the token's art-themed ticker.

What is AINFT?

AINFT (ticker: NFT) is the project formerly known as APENFT. It began in 2021 as a TRON-linked art foundation and NFT marketplace, then published a September 2025 white paper that reframed the project around AI agents, decentralized model infrastructure, and AI-assisted finance. The token name and ticker remained NFT.

The current AINFT website presents a narrower product: a reproducible paper-market benchmark for BTC and ETH trading agents. It locks model settings and risk limits, scores returns together with drawdown and trace quality, and explicitly says it cannot connect wallets or place real orders. This live surface is more limited than the broader agent, model-marketplace, and DeFi roadmap in the white paper.

NFT is described by AINFT as its governance token. Holding NFT does not identify a particular artwork and the public documents reviewed do not establish that ordinary token ownership conveys legal title to, or a redeemable fraction of, any Picasso, Warhol, Beeple, or other work held or promoted by the foundation.

What problem does AINFT solve?

APENFT originally tried to connect high-value art, digital creators, NFT issuance, trading, and blockchain provenance. Its marketplace used TRON and other chains, while the foundation described storing artwork metadata through BTFS and registering works under NFT standards.

The 2025 AINFT pivot addresses a different problem: AI agents can produce impressive trading results that are difficult to compare or reproduce. The current benchmark proposes fixed manifests, identical market conditions, paper-only execution, risk-adjusted scoring, and replayable decision traces.

These are two distinct product stories. AINFT inherits APENFT's token and art history, but users should not assume that the old art narrative, the 2025 AI roadmap, and the current benchmark are already one fully delivered system.

How does AINFT work?

The NFT token originated on TRON as a six-decimal TRC-20 token with an initial supply of 999,990,000,000,000 NFT. The 2025 white paper says all allocations were unlocked by May 1, 2023 and lists the original distribution as 30% artist partners, 20% artwork purchases, 19% DeFi airdrop and mining, 19% team, 10% partnerships, and 2% initial exchange offering.

AINFT's white paper says users stake NFT through the foundation to gain voting rights and that governance participation or campaigns may earn NFT rewards. Those statements describe project policy, not a legal claim on foundation assets. The public material reviewed does not give a token-by-token redemption formula for physical art or define enforceable profit-sharing terms.

The published TRON contract can be paused and deprecated to a replacement address by its owner. The published Ethereum contract additionally contains owner functions for issuance, redemption, blacklisting, destroying blacklisted balances, pausing, and contract migration. The repository proves those functions exist in the original code; users should check current on-chain ownership and contract status before drawing conclusions about present control.

Key facts

  • Current name: AINFT; former name: APENFT; ticker remains NFT
  • APENFT incorporated in Singapore on March 29, 2021; the white paper lists NFT issuance on May 20, 2021

  • The September 2025 white paper says every allocation was fully unlocked by May 1, 2023
  • Current official product: a BTC/ETH paper-market benchmark for AI trading agents; no wallet connection, exchange key, or real order execution
  • The white paper's wider AI-agent, DeFi, and model-marketplace architecture is a roadmap and should not be treated as fully delivered
  • NFT is documented as a governance token; ordinary holdings are not documented as direct legal ownership of a named artwork
  • Original published contracts include owner-controlled pause or upgrade paths; the Ethereum version also includes issue, redeem, blacklist, and destroy-blacklisted-funds functions

Frequently asked questions

Are APENFT and AINFT the same project?

AINFT is the name adopted after APENFT's 2025 pivot from an art-and-NFT platform toward an AI and blockchain roadmap. The token ticker remains NFT and the earlier APENFT history is part of the same project's public record.

Does holding NFT mean I own part of an artwork?

The reviewed public documents describe NFT as a governance token and discuss perks, rewards, and voting. They do not identify each fungible NFT token as legal title to, or a redeemable fraction of, a specific physical or digital artwork.

What does AINFT currently offer?

The current official website presents a controlled BTC and ETH paper-market benchmark for AI trading agents. It emphasizes locked configurations, risk-adjusted scoring, replayable traces, and no real-money execution.

How many NFT tokens were issued?

The official TRON contract and the September 2025 white paper state a total supply of 999,990,000,000,000 NFT. The white paper says all allocation schedules were unlocked by May 1, 2023.

Can the NFT contracts be administered?

The original published TRON code includes owner-controlled pause and migration paths. The Ethereum code also includes issuance, redemption, blacklisting, destruction of blacklisted balances, pausing, and migration. Verify current ownership and status on-chain.
